Job Title
Post-Silicon Debug Tools Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the architecture and implementation of post-silicon debug and tracing tools used for SoC bring-up, failure analysis, and system debug. Work within a Solution Engineering SoC architecture team to deliver tools that interface with design-for-debug (DFD) hardware.
Collaborate with DFD architects, design, verification and validation teams to ensure tools enable efficient root-cause analysis and scalable debug workflows.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The role expects approximately 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead architecture and development of post-silicon debug tools for configuring and decoding hardware traces.
- Collaborate with DFD architecture and SoC design teams to integrate tools with debug hardware.
- Develop consistent user experience across command-line and graphical debug tool components.
- Validate end-to-end debug flows with silicon verification, simulation, and emulation environments.
- Provide training and support to post-silicon debug teams for root-cause analysis.
- Promote automation, reuse, and scalable methodologies to reduce time-to-root-cause.
- Feed requirements and influence next-generation silicon debug features for improved observability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 5+ years of experience in tooling, silicon bring-up, or related debug roles.
- Excellent proficiency with Python for tools and automation development.
- Experience developing command-line tools and graphical user interfaces.
- Good software development practices: unit testing, code coverage, release processes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with version and review tooling such as Git and Gerrit, and artifact/CI platforms (Artifactory, CloudBees).
- Familiarity with SoC debug ecosystems (CoreSight, IJTAG, ELA, telemetry frameworks) and JTAG/on-chip debug architectures.
- Experience with silicon bring-up, failure triage and analysis, and working across hardware/software/validation teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Strong communication skills and a record of collaborating with multi-functional, multi-site teams.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical field. The posting also specifies ~5+ years of relevant industry experience.
