PMTS, A&D Field Application Engineer

Role Summary

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) supports GlobalFoundries' Aerospace & Defense customers in the US, assessing technical requirements and driving design-win opportunities through to tapeout.

The FAE works cross-functionally with account managers, product marketing, and technical experts to develop and present GF technology solutions and resolve adoption barriers.

Experience Level

Senior — requires a minimum of 15 years' experience in semiconductor design, tapeout, and process.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on customer engagement, opportunity development, and internal advocacy to secure design wins.

  • Engage with customers to gather technical requirements for IC product development.
  • Assess competitors and define GF value propositions to win designs.
  • Create and deliver application-specific technical presentations and proposals with account teams and product marketing.
  • Integrate technical and commercial terms to convert opportunities into design wins and tapeouts.
  • Identify, track, and resolve technical issues to advance projects to tapeout.
  • Advocate internally for product or process improvements when competitive gaps are identified.
  • Comply with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements in all activities.

Requirements

Must-have skills, security and eligibility criteria, plus practical experience and behavioral skills.

  • Minimum 15 years in semiconductor design, tapeout and process (senior-level experience).
  • US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense SECRET security clearance; cannot have dual citizenship.
  • Working knowledge of IC chip design flows and EDA tools from architecture through performance characterization.
  • Technical program management, problem solving, ownership, teamwork, and strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Travel up to 20%, primarily domestic with some international travel.
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal.
  • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with Digital/Analog/Mixed-Signal, HV Power, eNVM, millimeter-wave, silicon photonics, SoC integration, or related IC product design expertise.
  • Nice-to-have: business development experience within the Defense Industrial Base or related government agencies; project management skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field (e.g., applied physics) is required or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field.
