Platform Technologies Language Design Intern

Role Summary

This internship is on the Platform Engineering Technologies team supporting and enhancing tools for system-on-chip (SoC) design. The intern will complete a project matched to their skills and help improve domain-specific hardware design languages and tooling used by SiFive engineers.

The role involves applying object-oriented or functional programming skills, contributing to open-source projects (Chisel and CIRCT), and delivering usable tooling and verification improvements.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities for this internship include delivering a scoped project and improving internal and open-source tooling for hardware design:

  • Implement features or enhancements in domain-specific languages and tooling (example: Chisel).
  • Apply programming skills to improve design and verification workflows for SoC development.
  • Contribute to and collaborate with the Chisel (Chisel) and CIRCT (CIRCT) open-source communities.
  • Take user feedback from engineers and iterate on tools to improve developer experience and verification capability.
  • Deliver project documentation, tests, and integration support so engineers can adopt improvements.
