Platform Hardware Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Platform Hardware Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver platform-level hardware from requirements through schematic, PCB implementation, bring-up, validation, and delivery. Work within a cross-functional platform engineering team to ensure electrical, SI/PI, power, thermal, manufacturability, and system-level goals are met.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Role expects 6+ years of relevant hands-on industry experience in platform hardware or board-level product development.
Responsibilities
Accountable for translating system requirements into board-level designs and driving hardware deliverables through implementation and validation.
- Translate platform requirements into circuit, component, and PCB-level specifications.
- Develop schematics, select components, and define PCB implementation constraints (placement, routing rules, stack-up).
- Collaborate with PCB layout engineers to guide designs from feasibility to tape-out and release.
- Design and review power delivery architectures, voltage regulation, sequencing, and power budgeting.
- Apply signal integrity and power integrity principles; work with SI/PI specialists on critical interfaces.
- Plan and execute board power-on, bring-up, validation, characterization, and debug activities.
- Troubleshoot failures, perform root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Create and maintain design specs, schematics, bring-up plans, validation reports, and review documentation.
- Coordinate across silicon, firmware, validation, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in platform or board-level product development, PCB design, or related hardware engineering.
- Proven experience with schematic capture, component definition/selection, and collaborating with PCB layout teams.
- Strong fundamentals in digital and analog board design, mixed-signal circuitry, and platform power-on.
- Experience with high-density, multilayer PCB design and high-speed PCB implementation.
- Knowledge of high-speed interfaces, transmission-line fundamentals, signal integrity, and power integrity.
- Experience with industry-standard tools such as Cadence Allegro and related PCB design environments.
- Hands-on board bring-up, electrical measurement, hardware debugging, and root-cause analysis using lab equipment.
- Effective technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have / Preferred
- Experience with compute, server, client, FPGA-based, or semiconductor development platforms and high-speed I/O (PCIe, DDR/LPDDR, USB, Ethernet).
- Familiarity with SI/PI simulation tools, circuit or power simulation, impedance control, crosstalk, and PCB stack-up design.
- Experience with board-level power delivery design, Verilog basics, power budgeting, DFM/DFT, BOM management, and manufacturing flows.
- Experience using Python or scripting for hardware validation/automation and integrating AI-based tools into workflows.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline (explicitly stated in job qualifications).
