Job Title

Platform Emulation Software Engineer - DC GPU

Role Summary

Join the Platform Emulation team in AMD's Data Center GPU group to develop emulation infrastructure, GPU applications and tools that support pre-silicon verification, benchmarking, and debug of data-center GPU products.

This hybrid role is based in Markham, ON, Canada (preferred) and is open to Austin, TX. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typical candidate has several years of relevant engineering experience; specific years not stated.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing GPU software and emulation tooling to support pre-silicon verification and performance analysis.

  • Design and implement GPU applications in CUDA/HIP/C++ for pre-silicon verification and benchmarking.
  • Build and run GPU benchmarks and AI/ML workloads on emulation platforms; collect and analyze functional and performance data.
  • Develop scripts, tools and automation to parse emulation outputs and accelerate debug workflows.
  • Support debugging of hardware-related failures and performance issues observed on emulation, collaborating with senior engineers.
  • Prepare and present technical status updates and findings in team meetings.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Strong understanding of computer hardware architecture: GPU/CPU, memory hierarchy, interconnects, caches.
  • Proficient in C and C++; experience with CUDA or HIP for GPU programming.
  • Experience with Python and Tcl for tooling and automation.
  • Familiar with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
  • Experience or understanding of shared-memory concurrent programming, relaxed memory models, and cache coherency.
  • Familiarity with software architecture and boot flow (boot code, BIOS, device drivers, OS).
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Exposure to Verilog/SystemVerilog and waveform-based debug.
  • Experience profiling ML workloads and performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with ROCm, OpenCL, OpenGL, or Vulkan.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience required. Master’s degree in a technical discipline or an MBA is a plus.
