Physical Design Intern, VLSI - 2027
Role Summary
Work on VLSI physical design tasks within NVIDIA's China Physical Design team, focusing on floorplanning, power/clock distribution, placement, routing, timing/power/noise analysis, chip assembly, physical verification, and flow/tool automation.
Contribute to enhancement of in-house flows and tools and prototype AI/ML solutions to improve design and verification efficiency.
Experience Level
Intern - intended for graduate students (MS or higher). No specific years of professional experience required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Enhance and validate in-house physical design flows: floorplan, power/clock distribution, placement, routing, timing/power/noise analysis, chip assembly, and physical verification.
- Develop and maintain in-house EDA tools, scripts, and automation.
- Investigate and prototype AI/ML approaches to improve workflow efficiency and automation.
- Debug design issues and participate in design reviews and verification tasks.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Knowledge of the IC design flow, especially synthesis, timing, floorplanning, congestion analysis, and DRC concepts.
- Strong fundamentals in algorithms and programming.
- Proven ability to learn quickly and strong debugging skills demonstrated by past hands-on projects.
Nice-to-have:
- Hands-on background in IC design or physical design projects.
- Experience with Python, Tcl, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience with deep learning / ML projects relevant to automation or EDA.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics (enrollment in a graduate program is expected).
