Job Title

Physical Design Engineering Graduate Intern

Role Summary

Work on physical implementation of silicon designs—synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, clocking, and integration—to improve manufacturability, performance, and power. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and automation efforts to scale designs.

This is a hands-on graduate internship focused on skill development and applied engineering in physical design workflows.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Graduate Intern). Candidates are expected to be current master's students; the role expects at least 3 months of relevant practical experience with physical-design tools or flows.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include implementation, signoff support, and design optimization.

  • Support synthesis, place-and-route, static timing analysis, and clocking activities.
  • Assist verification and signoff to ensure manufacturability and performance compliance.
  • Perform floor planning and clock tree synthesis for robust physical layouts.
  • Apply power, performance, and area optimization techniques.
  • Contribute to design scalability and automation projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Support low-power design and power-reduction strategies.
  • Analyze technical issues and propose practical solutions to meet timing and manufacturability targets.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • 3+ months hands-on experience with physical design tools and flows (design planning, floor planning, static timing analysis).
  • Knowledge of low-power design techniques and power-reduction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with clock tree synthesis and design optimization principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills (preferred).
  • Willingness to learn design scalability, automation, and new tools and techniques (preferred).

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical/specialized field.
