Physical Design Engineer (RDSS Intern)
Role Summary
VLSI physical design intern based in Hsinchu working on netlist-to-GDSII implementation and physical design flows for NVIDIA chips. The role involves floorplanning, placement and routing, power and clock distribution, timing/power/noise/DFM optimization, verification, and automation.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for students or recent graduates; no specific years of professional experience required.
Responsibilities
Work within the physical design team to implement and verify ASIC/SoC layouts and maintain design flows.
- Implement full physical design flow (Netlist β GDSII) for NVIDIA chips.
- Floorplan at top and block levels.
- Design and implement power and clock distribution networks.
- Placement and routing at top and block levels.
- Perform timing, power, noise and DFM optimization and analysis.
- Chip assembly and physical verification.
- Develop flow automation and regression tests.
- Collaborate with EDA vendors on tool evaluation and improvements.
- Develop in-house tools and custom solutions.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and preferred technical skills.
- Knowledge of chip design and Place & Route methodologies.
- Familiarity with physical design concepts: floorplanning, power/clock distribution, timing/power/noise/DFM analysis.
- Strong problem-solving and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
- Nice-to-have: project or hands-on experience in IC/ASIC design and EDA tools (Place & Route, timing analysis, circuit simulation, layout).
- Nice-to-have: scripting experience (Perl, Python, Tcl, Shell) for flow automation.
Education Requirements
MS in Microelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related major is required. Coursework in IC design or digital circuit design is expected.
