Physical Design Engineer (PD/PnR)

Role Summary

Responsible for block- and top-level place-and-route implementation using Synopsys Fusion Compiler for complex SoC designs. Tasks include floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, timing closure, low-power integration, and physical signoff coordination.

Collaborate with RTL, DFT, power, and signoff teams to meet performance, power, and area (PPA) targets.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically 3–7 years of relevant physical design/PnR experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include implementation, verification, and signoff support:

• Perform block-level and top-level physical implementation using Synopsys Fusion Compiler.
• Drive floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis (CTS), routing, and timing closure.
• Execute and analyze static timing analysis (STA) across multiple corners and modes.
• Implement and verify low-power designs using UPF, including isolation, level shifters, and retention strategies.
• Support signoff activities such as DRC, LVS, IR drop, and EM analysis.
• Collaborate with RTL, DFT, power, and signoff teams to resolve integration and PPA issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

• Strong hands-on experience with physical design and PnR flows.
• Practical expertise with Synopsys Fusion Compiler.
• Solid understanding of static timing analysis, timing closure, and MMMC methodologies.
• Experience with low-power implementation and verification flows.
• Proficient scripting skills in Tcl, Perl, or Python.

Preferred:

• Experience with advanced technology nodes (7 nm and below).
• Exposure to full-chip integration and signoff methodologies.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
