Physical Design Engineer - Mixed Signal IP

Role Summary

Join a physical design team in San Diego responsible for implementing mixed-signal IP such as high-speed DDR, USB, PCI, PLL and mixed digital/analog blocks. The role focuses on delivering IP implementation through the RTL-to-GDS flow, ensuring first-time silicon success in nanometer technologies.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Mid-Career); minimum 6 years of physical design engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include leading technical execution, coordinating deliverables, and mentoring team members.

  • Provide technical leadership and direction for project execution.
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables to closure.
  • Mentor and guide team members in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate with design and cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate technical and non-technical issues clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and make informed design decisions.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience for successful candidates.

  • Minimum 6 years of physical design engineering experience with successful tapeouts in nanometer technologies.
  • Understanding of complex foundry design rules and requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of RTL-to-GDS physical design flow, including floor-planning, placement (automatic and custom), multi-voltage domains, pre-placement/pre-routing, PDN planning, place & route, clock tree synthesis and customization, and static timing analysis (constraints and fixing violations).
  • Physical verification experience: DRC, LVS, ERC, DFM. Virtuoso experience is a plus.
  • Experience with industry tools: Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor, Ansys.
  • Programming and automation skills: Python, C++, TCL, Perl, Awk; experience with Verilog/VHDL and Unix/Linux.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering required; specifically Bachelor's or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical fields.
