Job Title

Physical Design Engineer II (IC)

Role Summary

Execute physical implementation tasks for assigned ASIC partitions, driving synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and signoff activities. Work within a chip implementation team interfacing with architects, RTL designers, DFT engineers, verification, and EDA vendors.

Experience Level

Level - Senior. 7+ years of hands-on physical design and implementation experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include implementation, convergence, and signoff for assigned blocks:

  • Perform synthesis, place-and-route (PnR), and static timing analysis (STA) for assigned partitions to meet schedule and design goals.
  • Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, DFT, and verification teams to resolve implementation and signoff issues.
  • Address EM/IR closure and drive logical equivalence checking (LEC) and physical verification signoff for partitions.
  • Identify and mitigate physical design risks early to enable efficient iteration and convergence.
  • Contribute to improving implementation and physical design methodologies (synthesis, PnR, EM/IR, PDN, LEC).
  • Troubleshoot flow issues and coordinate with EDA vendors to resolve tool or flow defects.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and tools:

  • Proficiency with physical design flows and implementation methodologies (synthesis, PnR, timing convergence, physical verification).
  • Experience with industry EDA tools such as Cadence Innovus, Synopsys Tempus, and Cadence Quantus (or equivalent tools).
  • Practical experience closing timing and power, and addressing EM/IR and PDN issues.
  • Experience driving LEC and coordinating physical verification signoff.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills across multi-discipline teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • SoC design and implementation experience, including sub-7nm process nodes.
  • Low-power design techniques and experience meeting tight schedules.
  • Scripting skills (TCL) to automate and customize flows on standard EDA tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
