Role Summary
The Physical Design Engineer performs physical layout and verification for cell-, block-, and full-chip designs within Intel's technology development organization. The role focuses on layout generation, verification, parasitic extraction, floorplanning, place-and-route, and debugging to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
The position works with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance chip assemblies and improve physical-design methodologies and flows.

Responsibilities
Primary day-to-day responsibilities include layout creation, verification, and full-chip assembly tasks to meet project schedules and quality targets.
- Create and verify cell- and block-level semi-custom layouts, including floorplans and abstract view generation.
- Perform schematic-to-layout verification, reliability verification, and debug of layout issues.
- Execute parasitic extraction and use results to validate design timing and integrity.
- Use auto-place-and-route algorithms, custom polygon editing, and floorplanning for chip assembly.
- Perform full-chip assembly, packaging coordination, and verification activities.
- Troubleshoot complex physical-design issues and implement corrective actions.
- Plan, staff, and execute chip development tasks while following and improving methodology and flow.
