Role Summary
The Physical Design Engineer will lead die-to-die (D2D) physical implementation from RTL to GDSII for multi-die/chiplet designs, focusing on high-speed interface closure and tapeout readiness. The role partners with full-chip, chiplet, and analog teams to drive timing, signal/power integrity, and sign-off quality deliverables.
Tenstorrent is hiring for a remote position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically candidates with 5+ years of ASIC physical design experience at advanced nodes (7nm or below); multiple tapeouts preferred. The company may consider a range of seniorities and will assess level during interview.
Responsibilities
Lead hands-on execution of D2D physical implementation and closure, delivering production-quality GDSII.
- Drive full PD flow: synthesis, floorplanning, place & route, CTS, optimization, and sign-off.
- Take high-speed D2D PHYs/controllers from netlist to tapeout and own integration with chiplets.
- Perform timing closure and full STA (setup/hold), and address timing signoff issues.
- Execute SI/PI analysis (crosstalk, IR drop) and achieve DRC/LVS sign-off quality.
- Design and optimize D2D routing and power grids for multi-die interfaces.
- Collaborate with analog PHY teams on LEF/LIB, constraint handoff, and interface debug.
- Improve and maintain PD methodologies, flows, and automation (Tcl, Python).
Requirements
Required skills and experience for effective performance in this role.
- 5+ years of ASIC physical design experience at advanced nodes (7nm or below) with multiple tapeouts.
- Proven experience closing high-speed interfaces (D2D, PCIe, HBM, SerDes) and related physical challenges.
- Strong STA skills and familiarity with timing constraints and closure methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with SI/PI analysis (crosstalk, IR drop) and DRC/LVS sign-off processes.
- Expertise with implementation EDA tools from Synopsys, Cadence, or Mentor for PD and verification.
- Experience scripting and automating flows using Tcl and Python.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with analog, digital, and full-chip teams to debug complex issues.
- Willingness and ability to comply with U.S. export-control requirements for access to controlled technology; employment may be contingent on citizenship/permanent-residency status or obtaining a license.
Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is listed as the expected academic foundation.
