Job Title
Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead physical design activities for ASIC/IC development, owning architecture-to-layout considerations including synthesis, place-and-route, timing and power analysis. Work as a technical lead across multidisciplinary teams, drive delivery of complex designs, and act as escalation point for difficult issues.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 8+ years of related experience.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end physical design and delivery of complex integrated circuits. Typical responsibilities include:
- Lead floorplanning, synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure and power optimization for ASIC designs.
- Define module interfaces and formats for simulation and integration.
- Perform timing, power and manufacturability analysis; drive signoff readiness.
- Coordinate across design, verification, and validation teams to ensure integration and performance targets are met.
- Evaluate process flow, EDA tool flows and vendor capabilities to support development.
- Own major projects; set priorities, determine methods and drive schedules.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers; act as escalation point for complex technical issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical and professional qualifications.
- 8+ years of experience in ASIC/IC physical design and delivery.
- Proven expertise across the physical design flow: synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure and power analysis.
- Experience with layout of complex integrated circuits and system-level simulation.
- Strong project management skills and experience leading major projects or programs.
- Ability to define methods and procedures for new assignments and consult with management on long-range goals.
- Strong problem-solving, communication skills, and experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Nice-to-have: experience with industry EDA tool suites (Synopsys, Cadence, Mentor) and scripting (Tcl/Python/Perl).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree is specified; post-graduate coursework may be desirable. (The posting explicitly states "Bachelors and 8+ years of related experience; at this level post-graduate coursework may be desirable.")
