Job Title
Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Perform physical implementation of custom IP and SoC designs from RTL through GDS to produce manufacturable design databases. Work within the physical design team to execute synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, verification and signoff activities.
The role focuses on improving power, performance and area at the design level and on developing and automating physical design methodologies.
Experience Level
Mid-level; years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include executing the full physical design flow, performing verification and signoff tasks, and optimizing designs for product metrics.
- Implement RTL to GDS flow: synthesis, floorplanning, placement, routing, and clock-tree synthesis.
- Perform static timing analysis and timing closure across multiple corners and modes.
- Analyze power/clock distribution, power integrity, and perform power/noise analysis.
- Conduct signoff activities: equivalence checks, layout verification, LVS/DRC, electrical rule checking, and reliability checks.
- Diagnose violations, propose fixes, and document improvements for current and future architectures.
- Optimize designs for power, frequency and area; participate in methodology and flow automation improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and team attributes required for this role.
- Hands-on expertise in physical design tasks: placement, routing, CTS, STA, power distribution, and timing closure using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Experience with verification and signoff tasks such as formal equivalence, layout verification, DRC/LVS, and power integrity analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, initiative, and ability to multitask in a team environment.
- Good communication and collaboration skills to work within a diverse engineering team.
-
Nice-to-have: experience with multi-power-domain designs, DFT, SoC-level integration, and scripting/automation of physical design flows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field (as stated in the posting).
