Physical Design Jobs, Level - Entry or Early Career

Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the physical-design and methodology team working on next-generation, high-performance processor/ASIC chips in leading-edge CMOS processes for server, 5G/6G, automotive, and networking applications.

You will be hands-on with physical implementation flows and method development, collaborating with a global team to deliver robust, sign-off-ready databases.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early Career. Preferred 1–3 years of related professional experience; candidates with a Master’s or PhD are also considered.

Responsibilities

Work on physical implementation, verification, and methodology to produce sign-off-quality chip databases.

  • Run RTL through synthesis and place-and-route (PnR) flows and review completed runs for errors and optimizations.
  • Perform static timing analysis and interpret timing reports to identify and fix violations.
  • Verify power-grid robustness via EMIR/IR analysis and address issues.
  • Triage tool flows, debug failures, and implement corrective actions or optimizations.
  • Contribute to methodology, scripts, and process improvements to increase flow efficiency and robustness.
  • Collaborate with global design teams and mentors to meet project milestones and sign-off criteria.

Requirements

Strong hands-on and analytical skills in digital physical implementation and verification.

  • Academic or professional experience designing and testing digital logic blocks and evaluating quality of results.
  • Familiarity with timing-analysis formulas and concepts for synthesis and place-and-route.
  • Experience with timing analysis, PnR workflows, and EMIR/IR verification methods.
  • Ability to learn by doing, follow guidance from documentation and mentors, and proactively seek new responsibilities.
  • Good problem-solving skills and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Nice-to-have: prior exposure to commercial EDA tools for synthesis, place-and-route, and static timing analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 1–3 years of related professional experience; or a Master’s degree and/or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields. Coursework or projects must include digital logic, circuit design/testing, and timing analysis.
