Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Entry-level Physical Design Engineer supporting block-level and chip-level physical implementation, timing analysis, and signoff on advanced technology nodes within a central engineering organization.

Individual contributor role reporting to senior Physical Design/STA leads; responsible for executing implementation tasks, debugging timing and physical violations, supporting ECOs, and delivering signoff-quality results to meet project milestones. Role is eligible for a hybrid work model based in Bangalore, India.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” 0–2 years of industry experience or strong academic exposure in VLSI physical/backend design.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include implementation, analysis, and signoff activities for assigned blocks and chip-level tasks.

  • Execute block-level and chip-level physical design implementation tasks (floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing).
  • Perform and support Static Timing Analysis (setup, hold, clock checks) and debug timing issues.
  • Run and analyze physical signoff checks including DRC, LVS, EM/IR, power integrity, and reliability checks.
  • Implement ECOs and drive closure for timing and physical violations with guidance from leads.
  • Follow established methodologies, flows, and project guidelines; deliver tasks with focus on quality and schedule.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Solid understanding of physical design fundamentals (floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing) and timing basics (setup/hold, clocking concepts).
  • Must-have: Familiarity with physical design and timing analysis flows; ability to work as an individual contributor under technical guidance.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a learning mindset.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on exposure to EDA tools (e.g., ICC2, Innovus, PrimeTime or equivalent).
  • Nice-to-have: Academic projects or internships involving STA, EM/IR, or physical-design signoff; scripting experience (Tcl, Python, Perl).
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to advanced technology nodes and low-power design concepts; good written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The posting specifies a Master's degree; no alternate-equivalent experience language is provided for education.
