Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical layout and implementation of advanced ASIC products with a focus on 2.5D and 3D die-die interconnects and parallel interfaces. The role partners with R&D, IP development, signal/power integrity engineers, customers, and manufacturing to develop production designs and new interconnect technologies.
Experience Level
Senior β requires substantial industry experience (see Education Requirements for degree-plus-experience guidance).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include physical implementation, verification, automation, and technology development for advanced packaging and interconnects.
- Design and implement physical layouts for power grids and 2.5D/3D die-die interconnects.
- Perform DRC, LVS, and electrical verification and checking.
- Automate common design processes and repetitive tasks using scripting.
- Collaborate with SI and PI engineers on high-speed signal interconnect design and validation.
- Perform electrical analysis and optimization of ubump and RDL patterns.
- Evaluate and develop new 2.5D and 3D interconnect technologies and related IP.
- Contribute to technology and testchip roadmapping focused on advanced packaging.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience.
- Proven experience with IC, package, and PCB layout databases and tools.
- Strong TCL and Python scripting skills for automation.
- Experience developing or supporting high-speed interconnects and working with SI/PI analysis.
- Ability to work independently across a global organization and manage multiple customers under short timelines.
- Comfort providing technical guidance with incomplete information and operating in R&D/product environments.
- Experience performing electrical analysis and optimization related to advanced packaging interconnects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science plus 12+ years of related work experience; or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science plus 10+ years of related work experience.
