Job Title
Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
As a Physical Design Engineer on NVIDIA's GPU and ASIC design team in Bengaluru, you will lead block and chip-level physical design (PD) activities across the RTL-to-GDSII flow. The role focuses on floorplanning, place-and-route, STA/CTS, physical verification, and collaboration with RTL and verification teams to meet timing, power, and area targets.
This is a hands-on implementation role responsible for driving RTL-to-GDSII flow improvements, debugging tool and design issues, and delivering production-quality physical implementations.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 2+ years of experience in physical design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead block and chip-level physical design activities including floorplanning, placement, and routing.
- Perform RC extraction, PNR, CTS, STA, EM/IR analysis, DRC checks, and schematic-to-layout verification.
- Collaborate with RTL, logic, and verification teams to resolve design and timing issues.
- Debug tool and design-related problems and support team members in troubleshooting.
- Drive improvements in the RTL-to-GDSII flow to improve performance, power, and area (PPA).
- Own physical implementation tasks for GPU and other ASIC projects targeting desktop, mobile, and AI markets.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 2+ years of hands-on physical design experience at block and/or full-chip level.
- Strong understanding of RTL-to-GDSII implementation: synthesis, place & route, CTS, timing convergence, and layout closure.
- Experience with industry P&R and STA tool flows (e.g. Innovus/ICC2, Synopsys flows, Primetime/Tempus or equivalents).
- Familiarity with timing constraints, static timing analysis (STA), and timing closure techniques.
- Experience with physical verification, EM/IR analysis, and DRC resolution.
- Automation and scripting skills (Perl, Tcl, Make or similar) for tool integration and flow development.
- Ability to multitask, work in a global engineering environment, and communicate effectively across teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with high-frequency design methodologies and large full-chip floorplanning on complex SoCs/GPUs.
Education Requirements
BE / B.Tech / M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
