Physical Design Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, verify and document ASIC IP blocks and SoC physical design (digital and/or analog) to meet performance, power and quality targets. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware and software architecture, verification, EDA) to define implementation strategy and deliver production-ready blocks.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify exact years of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Define and implement block/SoC physical design, including architecture and circuit/logic specifications.
- Create and run system simulations and design verification activities to meet requirements.
- Execute RTL-to-GDS flow and/or custom circuit design/layout flows (synthesis, place & route, timing closure, power analysis).
- Collaborate with software and hardware teams to develop implementation strategies that meet system and customer needs.
- Produce detailed technical documentation for EDA, IP and ASIC projects.
Requirements
Must-have:
- Practical ASIC physical-design experience (RTL-to-GDS flow or custom layout/design flow).
- Experience with synthesis, place & route, timing closure and power analysis.
- Familiarity with EDA toolflows and tools such as Cadence/Virtuoso or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate technical concepts clearly in writing and verbally.
- Experience producing technical documentation for EDA/IP/ASIC projects.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with automation, scripting or programming for design flows (e.g., Python, TCL, C++).
- Prior work on high-performance, low-power SoC designs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field is required (as stated in Minimum Qualifications).
