Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Data Center Solutions Group in Colorado Springs as a Physical IC Design Engineer responsible for taking RTL to silicon tape-out for PCIe switch and enterprise storage products. The role focuses on physical design, timing closure, floorplanning, CTS, P&R, EM/IR analysis, and flow/methodology development to support high-performance AI/ML and datacenter systems.
This is an onsite position at the Colorado Springs campus; remote work is not allowed.
Experience Level
Senior — 12+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Execute physical design flow: synthesis, floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure.
- Set up and synthesize RTL and perform top-level static timing analysis (STA).
- Perform EM/IR analysis and address power integrity issues.
- Develop and improve physical design flows and methodologies.
- Collaborate with RTL and IC design engineers to meet tape-out schedules.
- Contribute to verification and sign-off activities leading to tape-out.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications:
- Proficiency with TCL and Perl scripting.
- Experience with EDA tools for synthesis, P&R, CTS, STA, and EM/IR analysis.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience across the full physical design cycle (RTL to tape-out).
- Strong skills in timing closure, top-level STA, clock-tree synthesis, floorplanning, and placement-and-route.
- Experience developing flows and methodologies for physical design.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work onsite in Colorado Springs.
Nice-to-have: experience with custom clock trees, insertion reduction, and skew balancing techniques.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering required.
