Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Implement physical design for digital blocks and top-level SoC, focusing on low-power techniques and timing closure. Participate in the full implementation flow from netlist handoff through tapeout.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience expectation: BSEE with 6+ years or MSEE with 3+ years in physical design.

Responsibilities

Deliver physical implementation and verification tasks and collaborate with logic designers to produce manufacturable SoCs.

  • Own physical design from netlist handoff to GDSII/tapeout: floorplanning, placement & routing, clock tree synthesis, timing closure, and physical verification.
  • Analyze and mitigate crosstalk, IR drop, and electromigration.
  • Apply and validate low-power design techniques.
  • Automate flows and improve productivity using TCL and Perl scripting.
  • Collaborate closely with logic designers and cross-functional teams to meet timing and manufacturability targets.

Requirements

Key technical skills and professional attributes.

  • Strong knowledge of the physical design flow (floorplanning, place & route, CTS, timing closure, physical verification).
  • Experience with 45nm or 28nm process technologies.
  • Experience implementing low-power techniques.
  • Proficiency scripting in TCL and Perl to automate design flows.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Well organized, methodical, and detail oriented.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with 6+ years related experience, or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) with 3+ years related experience.
