Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join NVIDIA's VLSI Physical Design team in China to implement physical design for GPU and mobile chips. The team uses advanced process nodes, industry EDA tools, and established design methodology to meet performance and manufacturability targets.

The role covers floorplanning, power/clock distribution, P&R, timing closure, signal/power integrity, and physical verification across complex designs.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” typically 2+ years of relevant physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform physical design for NVIDIA GPU and mobile chips.
  • Contribute to full-chip floorplanning, power and clock distribution, placement and routing, and timing optimization.
  • Drive timing closure and perform RC extraction, power and signal integrity analysis, and physical verification.
  • Troubleshoot design and flow issues and apply proactive interventions to meet project targets.
  • Collaborate with RTL, DFT and circuit designers to ensure high-quality design implementation.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and skills:

Must-have:

  • Power user of EDA tools such as Synopsys (ICC2/FC/PT/STAR-RC) and Cadence (EDI/Innovus/Voltus).
  • Practical experience with clock and power distribution, placement & routing, timing closure, RC extraction, and verification on advanced technology nodes.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for design and flow issues; effective cross-functional communication with RTL, DFT, and circuit teams.
  • 2+ years of experience in physical design-related tasks.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of FinFET technology, circuit design, or package design.
  • Experience with physical verification tools such as Synopsys ICV or Mentor/Calibre.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages and build tools (Perl, Python, TCL, Makefile).

Education Requirements

BS in Engineering or Science (or equivalent practical experience) is required. MS in Engineering or Science is preferred. The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of degrees.
