Physical Design Jobs, Level - Mid-Career

Job Title

Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Annapurna Labs physical design team within AWS Utility Computing to perform end-to-end physical implementation for semiconductor products that support AWS infrastructure. The role covers floorplanning through signoff, focusing on meeting power, area, timing, and manufacturability targets.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not specify a required number of years of experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver physical implementation and signoff for macros, clusters, and chip-level designs; contribute to design-flow and methodology development.

  • Perform full physical design flow activities: floorplanning, synthesis, clock tree synthesis, place-and-route, static timing analysis, power and noise analysis, physical verification, and equivalence checks.
  • Define timing constraints and drive backend convergence with design teams.
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for physical design of blocks and clusters under tight power, area, and performance constraints.
  • Develop and improve implementation and signoff methodologies and flows using EDA tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (RTL, verification, CAD, process) to resolve design and implementation issues.
  • Contribute to tool flow integration and vendor tool usage (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience required for immediate contribution.

  • Practical understanding of the complete RTL-to-GDS physical design flow.
  • Deep knowledge of sign-off activities, including timing and physical verification.
  • Experience with implementation tools and advanced process nodes.
  • Process- and technology-oriented mindset to meet silicon constraints.
  • Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience.

Nice-to-have:

  • Full-chip experience (floorplan, layout, timing signoff).
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces and multi-voltage / low-power design techniques.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
