Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical IC implementation for Broadcom's Data Center Solutions Group, focusing on PCIe switch and enterprise storage products. The role covers the full RTL-to-silicon physical design flow and supports next-generation AI/ML and data center platforms.
This position is on-site only at a Broadcom engineering location.
Experience Level
Level: Senior. Guidance: 12+ years of relevant physical IC design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading physical design activities from RTL to tape-out and ensuring timing, power, and signal integrity meet product requirements.
- Execute physical design, synthesis, physical verification, and timing closure.
- Set up and synthesize RTL for implementation.
- Perform timing closure using top-level STA and other strategies.
- Conduct EM/IR analysis and signoff work.
- Perform place-and-route and clock tree synthesis, including custom clock trees and skew balancing.
- Floorplanning and top-level layout decisions.
- Develop and improve flows and methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with IC RTL design engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Work on-site; remote work is not permitted.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Strong scripting skills (TCL and/or Perl).
- Proficiency with industry EDA tools for synthesis, place-and-route, STA, and physical verification.
- Proven experience across the full physical-design cycle, including tape-out.
- Experience with clock tree synthesis and advanced clocking techniques.
- Experience with EM/IR analysis and signoff flows.
- Ability to develop and document design flows and automation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering required. The role expects approximately 12+ years of relevant physical IC design experience.
