Job Title

Physical Design Backend Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Networking Silicon physical design team to implement backend physical design for high-speed communication chips. The role covers RTL-to-GDS flows and end-to-end physical implementation under demanding power, performance, area, and timing constraints.

You will work on high-cell-count and high-speed blocks, resolve timing and congestion issues, and collaborate across synthesis, placement & routing, timing closure, power distribution, noise analysis, and physical verification.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career β€” typically 2+ years of relevant physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on physical implementation and verification across the full backend flow:

  • Perform physical design of blocks to meet power, area, and performance targets.
  • Work on RTL-to-GDS flows: synthesis, placement & routing, clock and power distribution, timing closure.
  • Analyze and resolve complex timing, congestion, power, and noise issues.
  • Run and interpret physical verification checks (DRC/LVS) and fix violations.
  • Use EDA tools (Synopsys, Cadence, or similar) to implement and verify designs.
  • Collaborate with logic, timing, and verification teams; contribute to flow improvements.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications and technical skills required for the role.

  • 2+ years of relevant physical design experience.
  • Proven experience with RTL-to-GDS flows and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with placement & routing (PNR), static timing analysis (STA), and physical verification processes.
  • Deep understanding of physical construction and integration for complex chips.
  • Knowledge of LVS/DRC physical design verification methodology.
  • Experience with commercial physical-design EDA tools (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence).
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
