Physical Design and Timing Engineer Intern - Summer 2027
NVIDIAJob Title
Physical Design and Timing Engineer Intern - Summer 2027
Role Summary
Graduate-level internship on the physical design and timing team. The role supports physical implementation, power and timing closure, and methodology development for high-frequency, low-power ASIC designs.
Work will focus on practical RTL-to-GDSII implementation tasks, experiments to improve flows, and automation to accelerate design and analysis.
Experience Level
Internship - targeted at graduate students (MS or PhD). Early-career role focused on hands-on engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Drive physical design, power, and timing closure for high-frequency, low-power blocks.
- Support frontend and backend implementation efforts from RTL through GDSII in assigned areas.
- Run physical design experiments and evaluate tool flows and methodologies.
- Develop and improve automation, flows, and methodologies for physical design.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required or strongly preferred.
- Must-have: Familiarity applying AI/ML techniques to physical-design workflows to accelerate design, analysis, or automation tasks.
- Must-have: Knowledge of static timing analysis (STA), power analysis, and power-reduction techniques.
- Must-have: Experience with logic synthesis and equivalence checking.
- Must-have: Experience with physical optimization (placement, routing, clock tree synthesis).
- Must-have: Experience with industry-standard EDA tools (Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens, or similar).
- Must-have: Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Perl, Tcl, Make, Python, or similar.
- Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience applying ML or LLM-based tools to EDA or physical-design problems.
- Nice-to-have: Prior industry experience in physical design or experience developing methodology/flow automation.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Master of Science (MS) or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (graduate student). No other degree or equivalent-experience language was specified in the posting.
