Job Title
Photonic Mixed Signal Design Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Validate and debug co-packaged optics (CPO) photonic and mixed-signal silicon builds. Work with cross-functional teams to develop test methods, characterize optical, electro-optical, RF, and analog performance, and provide actionable feedback to designers.
This role focuses on hands-on lab validation, test automation, and performance margin analysis for new photonic mixed-signal products.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career β expects about 2+ years of experience in measuring, analyzing, and debugging mixed-signal builds.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on validation, characterization, and interfacing with design and test teams.
- Develop validation test methods for new photonic mixed-signal chip builds.
- Characterize optical, electro-optical, RF, and analog performance of new builds at die and module level.
- Validate, debug, and characterize analog, photonic, electrical-optical, and mixed-signal designs.
- Provide detailed feedback to designers on silicon performance, build quality, and design margins.
- Verify electrical-optical compliance to industry standards and test plans.
- Coordinate with multifunctional teams (design, test, manufacturing) to support chip development and validation cycles.
- Write and maintain scripts and tools for validation, data analysis, and test automation.
Requirements
Required technical skills, tools, and traits. "Nice-to-have" items listed separately.
-
Must-have: Deep understanding of fundamental optical components and analog circuits.
-
Must-have: RF testing experience at die or module level and detailed knowledge of optical lab equipment.
-
Must-have: Experience with scripting and data analysis (Python, Git, Matlab, or JMP) and ability to automate test flows.
-
Must-have: Proven ability to measure, analyze, and debug complex mixed-signal builds in a lab environment.
-
Must-have: Strong collaboration skills and ability to communicate technical findings to designers.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with control loops and optical transceiver performance testing at high data rates.
-
Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of wafer probe test systems and wafer handling.
-
