This position focuses on experimental characterization, lab automation, and data analysis to help transition R&D technologies toward engineering and production.

Experience Level

Entry-level — student position for those beginning an M.Sc. or Ph.D.; suitable for early-career researchers and graduate students.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include experimental characterization, lab automation, and collaboration with research and engineering teams.

  • Measure and characterize discrete and integrated optical frequency combs and silicon photonic devices in electrical and optical domains.
  • Design and execute experiments; develop lab automation and instrument control.
  • Analyze experimental data, document results, and support reproducible workflows.
  • Support technology transition from R&D to engineering and production through collaboration with researchers and engineering teams.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and physicists in a high‑speed optical lab.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes; candidate must be able to work in an experimental lab and collaborate with a team.

  • Proficiency in Matlab or Python; willingness to work in other programming languages as needed.
  • Practical lab experience and willingness to work in a hands-on experimental environment.
  • Creative problem-solving and initiative in designing experiments.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: optical lab experience, prior lab automation and instrument-control experience, and demonstrated ability to learn new technical domains quickly.

Education Requirements

Students at the beginning of their M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Physics with experience in optics.
