PDE CEM Engineer
Role Summary
Lead development, optimization, and control of semiconductor package assembly processes to meet NPI schedules and business requirements. Drive yield, quality, reliability, and process capability improvements through process characterization, materials/equipment innovation, and structured problem solving.
Integrate data-driven and AI/ML methods to enable predictive control and accelerate decision-making in high-volume manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior-level β typically 8+ years of experience in semiconductor process development or backend assembly.
Responsibilities
Own process definition, NPI qualification, and continuous improvement for packaging assembly processes. Lead problem solving and deploy data-enabled controls in production.
- Define and own Process of Record (POR), process windows, and capability (CPK).
- Drive NPI qualification with strong first-pass success and define process specifications and tool setups.
- Use DOE, SPC, and Six Sigma to characterize and optimize processes and establish control plans.
- Lead RCA, FMEA, OCAP and implement containment and corrective/preventive actions to improve yield and reliability.
- Apply AI/ML and analytics to predict yield trends, detect anomalies, and enable predictive process control.
- Integrate MES, equipment, and yield data; collaborate with digital teams to deploy analytics tools and dashboards.
- Evaluate and introduce new materials, equipment, and packaging technologies to reduce cost and improve productivity.
- Coach and guide process teams; collaborate across PDE, Manufacturing, Yield, and Equipment organizations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred items noted.
- Proven experience in semiconductor assembly and backend packaging process development and control.
- Demonstrated use of DOE, SPC, Six Sigma and experience leading FMEA and RCA activities.
- Strong statistical analysis skills (JMP or equivalent).
- Experience working with MES, equipment, and yield data to drive process insights.
- Working knowledge of data analytics or machine learning fundamentals and ability to apply insights to process engineering problems.
- Preferred: exposure to Python, SQL, or analytics tools; familiarity with Industry 4.0 / smart manufacturing concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver measurable yield and process-capability improvements.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Electrical Engineering.
