PCB Layout Intern
Role Summary
Join Semtech's Signal Integrity Products Hardware Design team at the Burlington, ON design center as a PCB Layout Intern reporting to the Manager, Hardware Engineering. Contribute to high-speed board design and assembly used for semiconductor performance measurement and work with product development and applications teams.
This paid, on-site internship (up to 16 months) provides hands-on experience with Cadence Allegro, Autodesk Fusion, signal-integrity tools, and cross-functional hardware development.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for students. Up to 16 months. On-site Monday–Thursday, 40-hour work week.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include PCB design, layout, and mechanical/cross-functional support for evaluation platforms.
- Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, and system-level signal integrity analysis and optimization using Cadence Allegro/OrCAD.
- Work with senior engineers to develop evaluation platforms following manufacturing design rules and bills of material.
- Support mechanical design of fixtures, housings, and thermal solutions using Autodesk Fusion.
- Collaborate with product, applications, and other internal teams to deliver evaluation hardware.
- Participate in debug, assembly, and measurement using optical and high-speed test equipment.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and personal attributes.
- Strong debugging skills.
- Experience with Cadence Allegro for PCB layout.
- Experience with Autodesk Fusion for mechanical design.
- Familiarity with RF and high-speed digital design (>10 Gbps).
- Knowledge of optical and high-speed test equipment.
- Good communication, organization, and cross-functional teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated, goal-driven, and customer-focused.
Nice-to-have: experience with evaluation platform development, bills of material, manufacturing design rules, and signal-integrity measurement techniques.
