Job Title

PA Design Engineering Intern

Role Summary

As a PA Design Engineering Intern in the Advanced Cellular group you will support the design, simulation, layout, EM validation, and lab verification of power amplifiers and RF modules for wireless communication products. You will work with experienced engineers on practical assignments that balance performance, size, cost, and schedule.

This is a hands-on internship with mentoring and opportunities to present results to business leaders.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current college students; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Design power amplifiers and support PA development for RF modules used in wireless applications.
  • Perform schematic capture, circuit simulations, and layout of RF PA integrated circuits, modules, and evaluation boards.
  • Validate PA design and module layout performance using 2D/3D EM modeling.
  • Balance performance requirements with constraints on size, cost, footprint, and schedule.
  • Develop designs addressing 5G/LTE, carrier aggregation, multi-antenna systems, filters, and power management as required.
  • Adapt designs to meet ruggedness, ESD, and quality requirements.
  • Use signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and power meters to compare simulated and lab data.

Requirements

Key skills and attributes.

  • Must-have: Analog/RF circuit design coursework or hands-on experience; familiarity with schematic capture, circuit simulation, and layout workflows.
  • Preferred: Exposure to RF measurement equipment (spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, power meters).
  • Software/EDA exposure: Cadence, ADS, HFSS, Momentum, FEM tools; electro-thermal simulation is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Education Requirements

Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program is required (internship open to undergraduate and graduate students). The posting specifically references MS or PhD pursuit in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics and notes a minimum GPA of 3.0. Coursework or background in Electromagnetics/Microwave Engineering and related technical fields is beneficial.
