Job Title

Optimization Engineer

Role Summary

The Optimization Engineer will optimize and benchmark applications, libraries, and kernels for Efficient Computer's energy-efficient programmable processor (the "Fabric").

You will own performance-critical kernel code, collaborate with compiler and embedded teams, and measure performance on third-party devices to push compute efficiency limits and produce optimized libraries and applications for customers.

Experience Level

Mid-level (no specific years of experience stated).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on software performance engineering and collaboration across hardware and compiler teams.

  • Optimize and benchmark kernels, libraries, and applications for the Fabric processor.
  • Develop, profile, and tune performance-critical, low-level system code in C/C++.
  • Work closely with compiler and embedded teams to provide feedback and validate compiler optimizations.
  • Run benchmarks on third-party devices and compare performance across platforms.
  • Design and maintain benchmark suites and performance tests.
  • Document performance results and implementation details for internal teams and customers.

Requirements

Key qualifications split into must-have and nice-to-have.

Must-have

  • Hands-on software development experience working closely with hardware, including exposure to at least one RISC, DSP, or GPU platform.
  • Proven ability to write, debug, and maintain low-level systems code in C/C++.
  • Strong focus on analyzing and maximizing software performance on non-traditional/dataflow architectures.
  • Regular use of AI tools to generate, optimize, and debug code.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to influence multiple engineering teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting complex systems and results.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with CUDA, HIP, or other parallel programming models.
  • Familiarity with low-level programming interfaces such as PTX, LLVM IR, or MLIR.
  • Domain expertise in linear algebra, ML, image/video/signal/audio processing, SDR, realtime programming, or robotics.
  • Background in performance profiling, benchmark design, or comparative hardware analysis.

Education Requirements

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
