Optical Transceiver Validation Engineer Intern (Master's Degree)
Role Summary
The intern will join the Optics team in Singapore to support validation and characterization of very high-speed optical transceiver modules and sub-components such as photonic ICs. Work focuses on test station setup, calibration algorithms, data collection and analysis for fiber-optic communications and high-speed serial links.

Entry-level internship aimed at Master's degree students.
Responsibilities
Typical assignments and day-to-day tasks may include:
- Set up and maintain automated test stations for high-speed photonic devices and transceiver modules.
- Develop and implement calibration and characterization algorithms for integrated photonic communication ICs within multi-channel transceiver modules.
- Perform performance testing of very high-speed serial communication links and sub-component optimization.
- Collect, process, and analyze measurement data to evaluate device performance and estimate manufacturing yield.
- Support efforts to optimize production test coverage and reduce test time.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary engineering teams; document test procedures and results.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical lab experience expected for the role.
- Must-have: Strong fundamentals in at least 2–3 of these areas: optical components and testing (lasers, optical amplifiers, TOSA/ROSA), communication theory (modulation, noise, SNR, DSP, equalization, Q-factor, BER), and very high-speed serial links design and testing.
- Must-have: Programming experience in Python or C for test automation and data analysis.
- Must-have: Hands-on lab experience with test and measurement equipment (optical spectrum analyzer, DCA, VNA, high-speed oscilloscope).
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to MATLAB, ADS, silicon photonics, and analog/mixed-signal circuit topics (op-amps, power supplies, ADC/DAC, PLLs).
- Nice-to-have: Experience developing calibration algorithms or automated test frameworks for production or R&D environments.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team; willingness to perform hands-on lab work.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
