Job Title
Optical Process and Integration Engineer
Role Summary
Owning the end-to-end technical strategy for integrating advanced display systems into next-generation wearable devices (smart glasses, AR headsets). The role coordinates optical design, display module engineering, and system-level validation to meet image-quality and production targets.
Works cross-functionally with optics, electrical engineering, firmware, product design, suppliers, and manufacturing to define requirements, resolve system-level failures, and shape the display roadmap.
Experience Level
Senior β requires substantial prior experience; the posting specifies 8+ years in display, optical engineering, or display integration.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical ownership of display integration from module validation through system bring-up and manufacturing release.
- Develop processes and select equipment for display module and system integration.
- Lead display bring-up from module-level verification to full system integration and manufacturing release, coordinating with panel suppliers and optical vendors.
- Identify and resolve system failure modes via root-cause analysis across optics, electronics, and firmware.
- Define integration requirements, translate optical performance targets into process and acceptance criteria.
- Communicate integration status, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering leadership and stakeholders.
- Define and drive display integration strategy and technical roadmap for product programs.
- Evaluate emerging display technologies for future platforms and mentor other engineers on integration methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for candidates; preferred items are listed separately.
-
Must-have: 8+ years experience in display engineering, optical engineering, or display integration.
- 8+ years of integration and process experience with display and optics technologies such as microLED, LCoS, glass processing, lens molding, material development, lamination, module and system integration, precision alignment, and automation equipment development.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional hardware integration from module bring-up through system validation and manufacturing release.
- Experience defining display system requirements and converting optical performance specs into integration/process specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Track record diagnosing integration failures and driving corrective actions across optics, process, electrical, and firmware domains.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with near-eye display architectures (pancake optics, waveguide combiners, freeform optics), evaluation of emerging technologies (microLED, holographic optical elements), and influencing supplier development or product roadmaps.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in materials science and engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or a related technical field β or equivalent practical experience. (Degree language appears in the posting; equivalent experience is acceptable.)
