Optical Manufacturing Process Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and oversee manufacturing processes for optical transceivers, working with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and cross-functional internal teams to meet product, yield, and quality targets for high-volume production supporting AI and HPC data centers.
Responsible for process definition, qualification, automation, and continuous improvement to achieve throughput, efficiency, and reliability goals.
Experience Level
Senior — 7+ years of experience in high-volume optical transceiver and/or laser manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end manufacturing process development, deployment, and continuous improvement for optical products.
- Define, prove, and deploy manufacturing processes to meet yield, throughput, efficiency, scrap reduction, and quality targets.
- Create and maintain manufacturing process documentation; review and approve production line processes.
- Ensure all changes to products, processes, and materials follow change control and QMS requirements.
- Collaborate with design, contract manufacturing, and quality teams to implement DFM and qualification testing.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize process data; prepare process reports and use SPC methods.
- Automate manufacturing processes where feasible and drive continuous improvement projects.
- Lead equipment selection, define statements of purpose, and work with suppliers on machine hardware, algorithms, and software from buy-off to release.
- Support optics failure analysis (FA) processes and tools.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 7+ years experience in high-volume optical transceiver and/or laser manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience in design, development, selection, and implementation of manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and methodologies for optical assemblies.
- Expertise in one or more assembly processes: wire bond, die bond, active optical alignment, product testing, burn-in, etc.
- Proficiency in data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and report generation.
- In-depth understanding of quality management systems and applicable quality standards.
- Experience with optics failure analysis (FA) processes and tools.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to work in geographically diverse cross-functional teams.
- Good command of English for verbal and written communication, including presentations; international travel required.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field is required, plus 7+ years of relevant manufacturing experience.
