NVMQRA Solid State Drive (SSD) Quality and Reliability Engineer
Micron TechnologyJob Title
NVMQRA Solid State Drive (SSD) Quality and Reliability Engineer
Role Summary
The engineer will manage quality and reliability activities for Micron SSD products as they enter high-volume production. Primary duties include planning and executing reliability evaluations, conducting failure analysis, monitoring outgoing product quality and reliability metrics, and supporting deviation containment and disposition.
The role works across NAND, firmware, package, and discrete component teams and supports internal and external customers via technical consultation, training, and global meetings. Micron develops memory and storage products used across data center, edge, and client applications.
Experience Level
Mid-level (2β7 years of relevant industry experience)
Responsibilities
Deliver reliability and quality outcomes for SSD products through evaluation, analysis, and cross-functional coordination.
- Plan and execute reliability evaluations and trials for deviation management and product qualifications.
- Identify and manage sampling material; determine material disposition and close out evaluations.
- Participate in MRB and containment activities for deviated material.
- Perform failure analysis and reliability testing; analyze results and report conclusions to stakeholders.
- Define and manage outgoing quality and reliability monitoring (OQRM) data collection and reporting.
- Analyze manufacturing data (e.g., MES/MAM) and apply statistical methods to verify results and assess risk.
- Coordinate reliability inputs across discrete component, package, firmware, and NAND teams.
- Lead or contribute to global meetings to set product priorities and dispositions.
- Provide technical consultation, training, and maintain lessons-learned knowledge for SSD market segments.
- Adopt and drive AI-enabled workflows to automate routine tasks, analyze large datasets, and improve engineering efficiency.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and desirable additions for successful performance in this role.
- Must-have: 2β7 years experience in SSD product/device engineering, non-volatile memory engineering, process integration, or quality/reliability engineering in the semiconductor industry.
- Must-have: Experience with reliability testing, failure analysis, and semiconductor reliability statistics.
- Must-have: Practical knowledge of wafer fabrication basics, device physics, NAND device operation, and solid state drive operation.
- Must-have: Familiarity with SSD protocol standards (SATA, PCIe, NVMe) and ability to analyze MES data (e.g., MAM) using statistical tools.
- Must-have: Good verbal and written communication, time management, and multi-tasking skills; ability to collaborate globally.
- Must-have: Demonstrated ability to integrate and use generative/agentic AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to improve failure analysis, automate workflows, and support data-driven decisions while applying appropriate data governance.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with MRB, containment processes, outgoing quality metrics (OQRM), and packaging/discrete component reliability evaluations.
Education Requirements
Required: Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering. Desired: PhD in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering. Candidates without a Master's may be considered if they have substantial relevant experience in product engineering failure analysis (EFA) and a strong semiconductor industry background; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
