Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Targeted at early-career researchers and graduate students; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Contribute to research and development projects in hardware and EDA, collaborating with internal teams and external researchers to produce demonstrable results.

  • Design and implement novel circuit and VLSI techniques, including ASIC development and advanced EDA workflows.
  • Collaborate with team members, product groups, and external researchers.
  • Transfer research outcomes to product teams; deliver prototypes, patents, or production-ready designs.
  • Publish original research and present results at conferences or in internal forums.
  • Use simulation, verification, and CAD/EDA toolchains to validate designs and methodologies.

Requirements

Technical skills and research experience required or commonly expected for placements in this internship program.

  • Strong background in research; evidence such as publications at peer-reviewed conferences or patents.
  • Programming and scripting: Python, C, C++, Perl, MATLAB; experience with CUDA is valuable.
  • Hardware description languages and verification: Verilog, SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with CAD/EDA tool packages (examples: Cadence, Synopsys, HFSS) and GPU-accelerated EDA workflows.
  • Familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch) and hardware/software co-design for ML accelerators is useful.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Research areas of interest include circuit design, PLLs/clocking, SerDes/high-speed signaling, integrated photonics, SRAM and memory design, power delivery, hardware security, ASIC/VLSI design techniques, ML accelerators, and EDA innovations.
