The role involves developing novel approaches, collaborating with researchers and product teams, and transferring research into prototypes, patents, or publications.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for currently enrolled Ph.D. students; professional years of experience not required beyond research work during the Ph.D. program.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include designing and validating novel hardware research and delivering tangible results.

  • Design and implement novel circuit and VLSI approaches, including ASIC development and advanced EDA methods.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external researchers, and product groups.
  • Transfer research to product teams and contribute to prototypes, patents, or products.
  • Develop experiments, run simulations, and analyze results using EDA and CAD tools.
  • Document results and publish or present findings as appropriate.

Requirements

Key technical and professional qualifications.

  • Research experience with publications at top conferences and/or patents.
  • Programming skills such as Python, C, C++, Perl, and MATLAB; familiarity with CUDA is desirable.
  • Hardware description languages: Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with EDA/CAD tool packages (examples: Cadence, Synopsys, HFSS) and ML frameworks (example: PyTorch).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to produce reproducible experiments, prototypes, and technical documentation.

Nice-to-have:

  • ASIC and VLSI design techniques, PLLs, SerDes, high-speed signaling, SRAM/cache design, power delivery, or hardware security.
  • Experience with integrated photonics, ML accelerators, hardware/software co-design, GPU-accelerated EDA, or related EDA research areas.

Education Requirements

Must be actively enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field for the full duration of the internship. Anticipated graduation month and year must be clearly indicated on the resume/CV.

Compensation: Intern hourly rate range stated by employer is USD 38–94; interns are eligible for intern benefits.
