Role Summary
The Ignite internship is a 12-week, on-site pre-internship program in Santa Clara, CA that places first- and second-year undergraduates on hands-on hardware engineering projects under technical mentorship.
Interns work with hardware engineering teams on real projects such as ASIC physical design, GPU verification and design, hardware infrastructure, power architecture, and related areas.

Entry-level internship for first-year and second-year undergraduate students (early-career).
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities during the 12-week program may include:
- Contribute to hardware engineering project tasks under engineer guidance.
- Implement and test basic modules or scripts relevant to project goals.
- Run and analyze verification, simulation, or physical-design results.
- Use CAD or HDL tools under supervision to support design or validation work.
- Attend technical training, code reviews, and mentorship sessions.
- Document work, present findings, and collaborate with team members.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Basic knowledge of one or more programming languages: C, C++, Python, Perl, or MATLAB.
- Demonstrated initiative and passion via clubs, leadership, extracurricular projects, or personal projects.
- Creativity, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to develop new skills.
- Ability to adapt to new tools, workflows, and team environments.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Basic CAD skills (Catia, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo).
- Understanding of VLSI design, computer architecture, CMOS transistors, or circuits.
- Basic knowledge of Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Familiarity with GPU APIs (CUDA, OpenCL) or interest in AI/ML/parallel computing topics.
Education Requirements
Must be a first-year (class of 2030) or second-year (class of 2029) undergraduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree at a four-year university in the United States in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), Mathematics, or a related field. Anticipated graduation month and year must be clearly indicated on the resume.
