Job Title

NPU Compiler SW Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop compiler technology and tooling for NXP's Neutron NPU to enable efficient deployment and inference of neural networks on embedded hardware. Work within an ML software team to implement, optimize and maintain the neural network compiler and runtime, collaborating with hardware and systems engineers.

Responsibilities include coding, testing, debugging, customer technical support, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards in an Agile development environment.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No specific years of experience were stated.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on implementation and optimization of a neural network compiler and supporting runtime for NPU-based inference.

  • Design, develop, test, debug and optimize compiler technology for NXP NPU hardware.
  • Collaborate with hardware and systems engineering teams to improve performance and robustness.
  • Implement compiler passes and optimizations for discriminative and generative AI/ML models.
  • Develop, test and maintain code for deploying neural networks on the Neutron NPU using the proprietary compiler.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards (MISRA C/C++, CERT, HIS, ASPICE).
  • Use agentic AI tools as part of day-to-day development.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of compiler technologies.
  • Proficient in C, C++ and Python programming.
  • Good knowledge of data structures, algorithms and design patterns.
  • Experience with embedded systems and operating systems; Linux development environment.
  • Familiarity with ML concepts (CNN, Conv2D, DepthwiseConv2D, MaxPool, AvgPool, Dense, activations, quantization).
  • Knowledge of signal processing and algorithms (matrix algebra, convolution, correlation, look-up tables).
  • Troubleshooting and debugging skills (build/compile and network issue resolution).
  • Technical presentation skills and fluency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred (nice-to-have):

  • Experience with LLVM/MLIR compiler infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of transformer networks and modern NN architectures (SSD, MobileNet, ResNet, Yolo).
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology, Git and CI/CD pipelines.

Education Requirements

BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
