NPU/AI Processor Architecture (RTL) Design 6 Staff/Senior Staff
QualcommJob Title
NPU/AI Processor Architecture (RTL) Design 6 Staff/Senior Staff
Role Summary
Join Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU team in Bangalore to design high-performance, energy-efficient CPU and AI processor IP used across Snapdragon platforms. The role focuses on RTL design, micro-architecture, and system/silicon debug for AI and CPU subsystems.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff / Senior Staff). Candidates typically have multiple years of hardware engineering experience; see Education Requirements for formal minimums tied to degree level.
Responsibilities
Work within the CPU/AI processor architecture and RTL teams to deliver production-quality IP blocks for AI inference and CPU subsystems.
- Architect and implement RTL for high-performance CPU and NPU blocks (RTL coding and micro-architecture).
- Design and optimize compute engines (matrix multiply, vector extensions, floating-point, computer arithmetic).
- Design memory subsystems: load/store units, caches, atomics, coherence and consistency.
- Develop branch prediction, out-of-order dispatch, schedulers and multi-thread/multi-processor support.
- Perform PPA (power, performance, area) analysis and optimizations.
- Design for reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) and functional safety considerations.
- Define and implement power-management architecture, circuits and flows.
- Support system and silicon bring-up and debug activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience relevant to CPU/AI RTL design and architecture.
- Proven RTL design and RTL coding experience for processor or accelerator blocks.
- Strong knowledge of CPU/AI micro-architecture and system-level design.
- Experience with compute datapaths (arithmetic, floating point, matrix/vector engines).
- Experience designing memory subsystems, caches, coherence and load/store units.
- Experience with branch prediction, out-of-order datapaths, dispatch and scheduling.
- Working knowledge of power/performance/area tradeoffs and optimization techniques.
- Experience with reliability (RAS), power-management architecture and silicon debug.
- Familiarity with RISC-V or similar ISA-based processor design is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate across architecture, logic, circuit and verification teams in a product-focused environment.
Education Requirements
Requires a degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or a related technical field. Typical minimums listed by employer: Bachelor's +6 years, Master's +5 years, or PhD +4 years of relevant hardware engineering experience; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
