Job Title

NPU/AI Processor Architecture (RTL)/Arithmetic Design Engineer - Sr Staff

Role Summary

Senior RTL/architecture engineer for Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU, focused on CPU/AI processor architecture and arithmetic engine design. The role sits in the Hardware Engineering team and supports development of AI compute for Snapdragon platforms.

Primary objectives include designing arithmetic and vector units, ensuring performance and reliability, and supporting debug and system integration of processor blocks.

Experience Level

Senior — the posting targets experienced engineers (typical background: 5+ years in CPU/AI processor design and hardware engineering; see Education Requirements for degree-specific experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architect and RTL-design arithmetic and accelerator blocks for NPU/AI processors.
  • Design and optimize floating‑point, matrix‑multiply engines, and vector extensions.
  • Analyze and improve performance and reliability of processor datapaths.
  • Debug RTL, silicon bring-up issues, and support system integration activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (architecture, verification, software, silicon) to deliver production designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design reviews and documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in CPU/AI processor design and architecture, with RTL focus.
  • Strong background in computer arithmetic and accelerator datapath design (floating point, matrix multiply, vector units).
  • Demonstrated ability in performance analysis, reliability engineering, and debug at RTL/silicon level.
  • Experience working on complex SoC subsystems and cross-functional integration.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for multi-team projects; ability to produce technical documentation and design reviews.

Education Requirements

One of the following: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field plus 6+ years of hardware-engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 5+ years of hardware-engineering experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 4+ years of hardware-engineering experience.
