Job Title

New College Grad - Semiconductor Design Engineer

Role Summary

Entry-level engineering role within the DRAM Engineering Group focused on design, simulation, optimization, and validation of digital and analog CMOS circuits for advanced DRAM and emerging memory technologies.

The position works across the full product lifecycle and with cross-functional teams (product, process, test, CAD, verification, manufacturing) to support tape-out and product qualification.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” new college graduate. Academic exposure or internships in circuit design and simulation expected; prior industry experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, simulate, analyze, and optimize CMOS memory circuits and functional blocks (memory arrays, control logic, datapaths, address decoding, I/O interfaces).
  • Support physical design tasks: floor planning, placement, routing optimization, layout verification, and manufacturability improvements.
  • Perform circuit simulations and debugging using industry-standard tools and analyze results across operating conditions and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Process Integration, Test, Assembly, CAD, Modeling, Verification, and other partners to ensure product quality and reliable tape-out execution.
  • Apply AI-assisted design tools, agentic AI workflows, generative AI solutions, and automation to improve simulation efficiency, design exploration, and debug processes.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical qualifications.

  • Must-have: Foundational knowledge of CMOS circuit design, semiconductor devices, and device physics.
  • Must-have: Experience or academic exposure to circuit simulation and modeling tools such as FINESIM, HSPICE, SPICE, or VERILOG.
  • Must-have: Understanding of digital logic design, state machines, and basic design verification methodologies.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience or coursework in DRAM, NAND, SRAM, high-speed circuits, or mixed-signal design.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, physical design flows, layout methodologies, or PDN analysis.
  • Nice-to-have: Programming or scripting experience (Python, Tcl, Perl) for design automation and workflow optimization.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience using AI-assisted development tools, code-assist tools, or generative AI to support engineering productivity.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
