New College Grad - IC Package Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Entry-level IC Package Layout Engineer supporting design and implementation of advanced semiconductor packages for memory and storage products. Work with experienced engineers on package layout, verification, and manufacturing-ready documentation.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Package Design, Signal Integrity, Product Engineering, Assembly, CAD) to deliver manufacturable solutions and contribute to automation and continuous-improvement efforts.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Targeted at new college graduates (graduation within the last 12 months or expected prior to start date).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop IC package layouts for DDR, LPDDR, GDDR, NAND, and ASIC products.
  • Support feasibility studies, mechanical substrate layouts, and package design activities.
  • Create and maintain PCB and IC package libraries (footprint creation) and follow established layout methodologies.
  • Participate in layout reviews and generate layout documentation and drawings.
  • Perform design rule checks (DRC) and use validation tools to ensure manufacturability and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
  • Support continuous-improvement and design automation initiatives; use AI-enabled tools and data-driven workflows to improve productivity and decision-making.

Requirements

Minimum skills and attributes:

  • Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must-have: Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Nice-to-have: Coursework, internship, co-op, or project experience related to PCB design, IC package design, electronics, or semiconductor technologies.
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to CAD or EDA design tools; basic understanding of signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) concepts.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with scripting or automation tools such as Python or similar languages.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated leadership through student organizations, projects, research, or internships.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field. Graduation within the last 12 months or expected graduation prior to the start date.
