Job Title

New College Grad - Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Design, build, test, and debug firmware for high-performance memory controllers and SSD platforms. Work on feature development, failure analysis, and system-level debugging in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level (new college graduate). Note: the posting's minimum qualifications also list 3+ years of embedded firmware experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver firmware and support product development across system layers.

  • Develop, build, test, and debug firmware for memory controllers and SSD products.
  • Perform failure analysis, triage issues, and produce detailed bug reports.
  • Analyze, design, program, troubleshoot, and enhance firmware across system layers.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to resolve complex system-level issues.
  • Use AI-assisted tools and workflows (including LLM-based tools) to improve code development, debugging, log analysis, and automation.

Requirements

Key technical requirements and preferred skills.

Must-have:

  • 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python; experience with low-level programming (assembly/machine language).
  • Experience with storage technologies such as SSDs, HDDs, or NAND flash memory.
  • Experience applying or leveraging AI-supported tools (e.g., code-assist or AI assistant solutions) in development or debugging.

Nice-to-have:

  • Understanding of storage interfaces such as PCIe/NVMe, SATA, or SAS.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Python or similar).
  • Experience leading projects or mentoring engineers in firmware or embedded systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to Generative AI or agentic AI workflows applied to firmware development or system-level debugging.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; PhD preferred.
