New College Grad - Engineer, Surface Lab

Role Summary

Engineers in the Surface Lab perform physical, mechanical, and thermal characterization of semiconductor materials, devices, and packages to support technology development, advanced packaging, and high-volume manufacturing.

This role executes laboratory characterization, maintains and troubleshoots instrumentation, analyzes data, authors technical reports, and provides day-to-day support to engineering and manufacturing teams with an emphasis on data quality, collaboration, and safety.

Experience Level

Entry-level. New college graduate; no specific years of experience required.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform routine physical and thermal characterization of semiconductor materials and products to support internal development and manufacturing customers.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to meet cycle-time and quality expectations.
  • Analyze samples, interpret results, and author clear, accurate technical reports.
  • Provide day-to-day customer support for engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ensure compliance with lab SOPs, safety requirements, and information security policies.
  • Support vendor interactions, tool qualifications, and preventative maintenance activities.

Requirements

Must-have skills and conditions:

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with scientific or engineering instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to support manufacturing operations, including rotating shift work.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with physical, mechanical, or thermal characterization (thermal metrology, mechanical/warpage characterization, dimensional metrology, semiconductor package or device characterization).
  • Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with data analysis, statistics, or project management tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
