Job Title

Neuromorphic/AI Research Scientist

Role Summary

Develop, implement, and benchmark algorithms for Intel's next-generation neuromorphic architecture to enable edge computing, signal processing, and autonomous system applications.

Validate and improve the neuromorphic SDK, gather performance metrics on hardware, and communicate results to internal teams and collaborators. This is a fixed-term opportunity (~12 months) within an incubation team in Intel's CTO Office.

Experience Level

Entry-level. The role expects approximately 1+ years of relevant experience in software development and AI algorithm development.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and optimize AI and signal-processing algorithms for edge platforms using neuromorphic hardware.
  • Evaluate and benchmark algorithms on current and next-generation neuromorphic chips.
  • Validate the neuromorphic SDK with real-world workloads, collect metrics, and recommend software improvements.
  • Document and present technical results to internal teams and external collaborators.

Requirements

Concise list of must-have and preferred qualifications.

Must-have

  • 1+ years of experience writing clean, efficient, modular Python and C++ code.
  • 1+ years developing AI models for signal processing, perception, reasoning, or control.
  • 1+ years applying software development best practices (OO design, testing, debugging, version control, code reviews).
  • At least one peer-reviewed publication demonstrating research experience.

Preferred

  • Experience with edge AI accelerators, event-based sensors, or event-driven architectures.
  • Exposure to neuroscience or neurobiology-inspired algorithms.
  • Experience developing software for robotics or real-time control systems.
  • Experience profiling and benchmarking algorithms and hardware architectures.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and clear communication skills.

Education Requirements

Enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related field (PhD enrollment explicitly required).
