Network Platform Development Engineer (Switch/SAI/NOS/SDK, L2/L3, C, Linux Kernel, DPDK)
Marvell TechnologyJob Title
Network Platform Development Engineer (Switch/SAI/NOS/SDK, L2/L3, C, Linux Kernel, DPDK)
Role Summary
Design and implement control-plane and data-plane software for high-performance switch and DPU-based platforms. Work across firmware, OS/NOS stacks, and hardware bring-up to deliver scalable Layer 2/3 networking features and packet-processing pipelines.
The role collaborates with hardware teams, participates in open-source networking projects, and contributes to system integration, performance tuning, and production-quality code delivery.
Experience Level
Senior - the position expects significant industry experience (job specifies 10+ years with a Bachelor's or 8+ years with a Master's degree).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities focus on architecture, implementation, and integration of switching and DPU/networking software.
- Architect next-generation switching and DPU-based solutions for enterprise and cloud environments.
- Implement and optimize control-plane and data-plane features on switch platforms.
- Develop and enhance Layer 2/3 capabilities such as VLANs, VXLAN, L2GRE, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and multicast.
- Design high-performance packet pipelines including QoS, congestion control, telemetry, and packet I/O optimizations.
- Build and integrate security features including 802.1X, MACsec, NAC, and micro-segmentation.
- Contribute to and integrate with open-source projects (SONiC, SAI, OVS, DPDK, ODP, Linux kernel).
- Collaborate on hardware bring-up and hardware-software integration for new Switch SoC platforms.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous integration/testing processes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; items below summarize the posting's essential and preferred technical expectations.
- Proficient in C and C++; experience with Python and Lua scripting.
- Deep understanding of Ethernet switching, Layer 2/3 protocols, and DPU concepts.
- Hands-on experience with SONiC, SAI, Cumulus Linux, OVS, DPDK, ODP, and related DPU technologies.
- Familiarity with ARM multicore SoC architectures and high-speed packet I/O.
- Strong knowledge of networking constructs: ACLs, LPM, exact match (EM), routing, MAC learning, QoS, bridging, and load balancing.
- Exposure to cloud networking, SDN, or network virtualization technologies.
- Proven ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex technical projects independently; strong analytical and communication skills for distributed teams.
- Experience participating in open-source communities and code contribution is highly desirable.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of experience, or Master's degree in a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience. (The posting specifies these degree-and-experience combinations.)
