Network Hardware Engineer, Infrastructure

Role Summary

Design and scale physical network systems for Meta's global data center fleet. The role sits on the infrastructure team and translates network architecture requirements into production-ready custom hardware: switching platforms, optical interconnects, and high-speed PCB assemblies deployed at hyperscale.

Experience Level

Senior - requires 8+ years of hardware or electrical engineering experience focused on network equipment, data center infrastructure, or high-speed digital systems.

Responsibilities

Own hardware architecture, electrical design, and production readiness for data-center switching and interconnect systems.

• Define hardware architecture including cooling, SerDes interfaces, optical modules, and management subsystems.
• Lead electrical design for high-speed PCB layouts, signal integrity analysis, and power delivery networks.
• Collaborate with ASIC, firmware, and network software teams to define hardware–software interfaces and ensure integration.
• Drive hardware bring-up, debug, and qualification of prototypes using oscilloscopes, TDRs, protocol analyzers, and network test equipment.
• Partner with ODMs and contract manufacturers through EVT, DVT, and PVT to transition designs to production.
• Develop and execute validation plans covering thermal, mechanical, power, and electrical compliance.
• Document designs, test results, and failure analyses to support engineering reviews and manufacturing readiness.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills.

• 8+ years in hardware/electrical engineering for network equipment, data center infrastructure, or high-speed digital systems.
• Experience designing and validating high-speed PCBs for networking, including signal integrity for SerDes interfaces at 50G, 100G, or higher.
• Proven hardware bring-up and debug experience with lab instrumentation and network traffic generators.
• Experience working with ODMs or contract manufacturers through full hardware development lifecycle (EVT, DVT, PVT).

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with custom silicon switching platforms or open networking hardware initiatives.
• Proficiency in Linux or embedded environments.
• Background in large-scale fabric architectures, disaggregated hardware models, high-power ASIC designs (>500W), OSFP, or co-packaged optics integration.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
